Policy Platform

The NRHC’s policy platform is designed to support a robust level of housing investment and development, and ensure an established legislative framework that encourages housing providers to enhance the range of housing options available.

Key points in NRHC’s policy platform include:

  • Addressing the housing supply crisis by investing in communities and neighborhoods to support a housing market that can meet the needs of Americans and their families.
  • Enhancing the diversity of housing opportunities by creating and delivering a greater range of choice for consumers.
  • Advocating for thoughtful regulation governing housing development, allowing for local growth and diversification of communities, residents, and housing.
  • Creating policy that allows builders to excel at building more housing, both ‘for sale’ and ‘for rent’.
  • Opposing measures that restrict the availability of funding and resources for local housing development.

Renters’ Rights

The NRHC firmly believes in the importance of fostering public policies that incentivize homeownership and offer Americans the opportunity to purchase a home. That said, we recognize that homeownership is not the right option for everyone at every point in their lives. No matter where Americans are on the continuum of renting or owning, they deserve to be supported by policies that provide access to quality housing. Single-family rental homes are an important piece of a vibrant housing market and, for many, a fundamental stepping stone to homeownership.

Federal and State Advocacy

NRHC works on behalf of members and other stakeholders to advocate for policies that support the single-family rental market at the Federal, State and Local level, particularly on issues relevant to the availability of single-family rental properties for consumers.

Our advocacy has centered around a range of high-impact efforts, such as:

  • Expanding access to high quality single-family rental units
  • Preventing harmful policies from being established that undermine rental choices for consumers
  • Educating state and local officials about the importance and benefits of the professionalized single-family rental market
